The Client’s Request
Our assignment from Royal Caribbean was to reinvigorate the open decks.
THE CORE CONCEPT
The foundation of a design.
At the heart of every project is the core concept. This concept is the foundation on which the design is built. For this project, that concept was to create a Caribbean village and bring island living on board.
INSPIRATION
A narrative begins.
To recreate the heart of a village, the team found inspiration in the works of local artists, classic graphics, the rich landscape, and the bright and colorful architecture of the Caribbean islands.
PROCESS
We start a visual dialogue. At this stage of development we keep things loose, experimenting with color, scale, mood and direction.
Continuing with concept development, we begin selections and create loose presentations, which continue the creative dialogue within our team and with our client.
We create 3D renderings early in the project, allowing our clients (and us) to see spaces take shape.
Once the design is approved, it is developed into the design drawings. We work together with the client, contractor and suppliers to ensure the vision becomes reality.
INSTALLATION
We’re on hand and in-field, to oversee the installation and maintain quality control; actively participating in the project coming to life.
DELIVERY
One of the most exciting parts of the process is when the project is delivered.
For this project, the design created new brand standards, which were implemented throughout the fleet, and continue to inform and evolve the design of new ships.
